RWS Trados Studio 2024: A Leap Forward in Translation Technology


Over the past few months, I have tested Trados Studio 2024, and I must say, this release is more than just an update—it’s a real leap forward for CAT tools. With significant improvements in AI integration and project management, it is clear that RWS has truly raised the bar this time.

Trados Copilot: More Than a Simple AI Assistant

One of the standout features is Trados Copilot, an AI-powered assistant that goes beyond the typical translation suggestions. Copilot can now assist with batch processing, improve terminology accuracy, and apply customizable or standard prompts to "refine" translation style and tone. The integration is so seamless that it feels like having a virtual assistant right within your translation workflow.


I found that it handles repetitive tasks like pre-translation and term extraction with impressive efficiency, adapting intelligently to each project’s specific needs.

Cloud Integration for a Smoother Workflow

The enhanced cloud integration in Studio 2024 allows for better handling of both local and cloud-based resources. Whether you are managing large cloud projects or leveraging cloud-based machine translation, the new system provides real-time progress reporting, which makes tracking the status of complex projects much easier.

Additionally, cloud resources can now be used in batch tasks, allowing for smoother project preparation and analysis. This is especially useful for translators and project managers working across multiple environments.

A Redesigned Manager View for Simplicity

One of the features I appreciated the most is the new Manager view, which consolidates all your projects, files, and reports into a single streamlined interface. No more switching between views—everything is accessible in one place, allowing for better project management and progress tracking. I particularly liked the Timeline feature, which shows project deadlines and lets you make adjustments directly within the app.

Stability, Accessibility and Productivity Enhancements

In addition to the AI innovations, Trados Studio 2024 also made strides in stability. I found it more stable than before. The software encountered less crashes and overall speed improved. In terms of Accessibility, the platform now integrates the Microsoft UI Automation Framework (UIA), improving compatibility with screen readers and assistive technologies. This ensures a more inclusive user experience, allowing everyone to contribute to the translation process, regardless of their physical abilities.

The updated terminology integration also improves term recognition accuracy, ensuring that terms are correctly flagged and used, particularly when working with non-Latin languages.

Essential Plugins to Boost Productivity

Beyond the core features, the plugins available in Trados Studio are invaluable. Tools like Antidote (for advanced grammar and style correction), Juremi (for legal term searches), and Web Search (for easy internet-based searches directly within Studio) make the translation process more efficient and accurate. These plugins are essential in my daily workflow, enhancing both quality and speed without leaving the Trados environment.
